Garena launched Free Fire India as a standalone app for iOS and Android on October 28, more than four years after authorities in India banned the original Free Fire. Garena had announced an India-specific release in September 2023, then postponed it shortly before its planned launch.[1][2]
The India build adds local content and responsible-play measures. Garena says users under 18 need parental consent and lists break reminders, playtime limits and spending caps. The publisher also says it will continue working with local partners on esports pathways from grassroots and collegiate competitions to international competition.[1]
Free Fire MAX, which remained available in India during the ban, continues alongside Free Fire India. TechCrunch reported that Garena India operations head Vaibhav Das Mundhra said players could use the same account across both apps, play together and join the same events. Garena’s support FAQ says Free Fire India accepts India-region accounts only and that those accounts cannot be used in Free Fire or MAX; on iOS, an Apple ID already used with MAX creates a separate Free Fire India account without linking or transferring the existing MAX account. The two sources describe different account conditions, so the shared-account statement should be read alongside Garena’s region-specific guidance.[2][4]
