The Bundesliga and Electronic Arts have extended one of football gaming’s longest-running licensing relationships and widened it beyond the representation of clubs, players and stadiums in a video game.

Announced at Gamescom in Cologne on Aug. 27, the long-term renewal keeps the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 inside the EA SPORTS FC ecosystem. The official release specifically names EA SPORTS FC 27 and FC Mobile, while its German edition also confirms FC Online. The partners did not disclose the new agreement’s duration or financial terms.

The relationship dates to 1998, giving the league and EA nearly three decades of continuity across the former FIFA series and the current EA SPORTS FC brand. Its next phase, however, is framed around more than licence retention.

Why It Matters

The expanded agreement covers content, intellectual property, emerging technologies and innovation. It specifically identifies TRACAB’s football data and tracking capabilities as part of the work the two sides plan to deepen. Electronic Arts acquired TRACAB in 2025, making the tracking specialist part of EA’s own sports-technology stack.

That detail changes the commercial shape of the relationship. A conventional sports-game licence supplies names, marks, kits and other rights needed for an authentic product. Tracking systems add a technical layer built around how athletes and the ball move during real matches. Bringing an EA-owned tracking system into the league relationship creates potential uses across authenticity, analysis and digital experiences.

The announcement does not say precisely which TRACAB datasets will enter EA products, when any integration will launch or whether the data will directly change EA SPORTS FC 27 gameplay. For now, the important signal is that data and tracking have moved into the declared partnership scope rather than remaining separate from the licensing agreement.

What Changed

The partners will also explore new supporter touchpoints through the EA SPORTS App. That gives the Bundesliga another route to reach fans throughout the season and outside matchdays, particularly younger and international audiences whose first sustained contact with German football may come through games rather than broadcasts.

EA SPORTS FC already supports the Virtual Bundesliga, the league’s official FC Pro competition, and presents the Bundesliga’s Player of the Month and Player of the Season awards. The renewal therefore sits across several layers: licensed game content, an esports competition, league awards, match data and direct digital engagement.

For Germany, the deal shows how an established domestic sports property can package global distribution and technology around a long-term publisher relationship. The Bundesliga is not only renewing its place in a game catalogue. It is combining sports rights, interactive products, data infrastructure and fan acquisition in one commercial framework.

What to Watch

  • A product or technical announcement explaining how TRACAB data or tracking will be used, and whether it affects gameplay, analysis or fan products.
  • The first EA SPORTS App features tied to Bundesliga clubs or the season calendar.
  • Any disclosure of the renewed agreement’s duration, financial terms or additional rights beyond the confirmed FC 27, FC Mobile and FC Online scope.
