Perfect World Esports will host the winter Counter-Strike 2 Major in Shanghai again in 2027, according to an official announcement published by the company’s CSGO account on September 15. The announcement places the tournament in November and December and describes it as a return of Valve’s highest-level Counter-Strike competition to China.

Why it matters

The decision gives Shanghai a second Counter-Strike Major in three years and reinforces the city’s position as a repeat host for top-level international esports. The commercial and attendance results of the 2027 edition will help determine how durable that regional footprint becomes.

What changed

The announcement confirms Perfect World Esports as organizer and Shanghai as host city for the second Counter-Strike Major of the 2027 calendar. HLTV’s independent report lists the planned event window as November 22 to December 12, 2027. The official announcement itself only specifies November–December, so the detailed dates remain subject to the organizer’s final schedule. Venues, ticketing and the 2027 competition format have not yet been announced.

Perfect World previously organized the 2024 Shanghai Major, which brought the Major to Asia for the first time. The 2027 announcement therefore extends an existing event-hosting relationship rather than establishing Shanghai as a first-time destination.

What to watch

The next useful signals are the confirmed venue plan, whether all stages will again be accessible to spectators, the final dates and qualification calendar, and any announced prize pool or commercial partners. Those details will show whether the 2027 tournament is being built as a repeatable city platform or primarily as a return to a proven host market.
