PTG Database Analysis
The Counter-Strike: Source final at the 2008 CGS World Championship ran from Jul 14–28 at The Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. The competition was part of the Championship Gaming Series multi-game league. Liquipedia records an eight-team CS:S field and a USD 455,000 game prize pool; the contemporaneous league release separately advertised a USD 500,000 grand prize for the overall multi-game championship. Birmingham Salvo beat San Francisco Optx 22–15 in the final.[1][2][3]
Sports Business Journal later identified Mountain Dew, Xbox 360 and Alienware among CGS sponsors during the 2008 season. The contemporaneous championship announcement also called the award the Mountain Dew Trophy. These are recorded as league-season sponsorships, not as separately documented event activations.[2][3][4]
