PTG Database Analysis
ESL originally announced ESL One Cologne 2020 for July 6–12 at LANXESS arena, with 16 teams and a USD 1,000,000 prize pool. As public-health restrictions shifted the tournament dates and format, Liquipedia records a later 24-team closed-studio plan in Cologne for August 21–30, with the ESL Cologne Offices as its listed venue. ESL ultimately moved the competition online across European, North American, Oceanian and Asian divisions. The in-person Cologne edition did not take place; the online divisions are separate records.[1][2][3]
Liquipedia lists eight directly qualified teams and 16 play-in qualifiers for the cancelled LAN/studio edition. Each roster entry is marked as qualified before cancellation; none is shown as having competed in that cancelled edition. The planned LAN prize pool was USD 1,000,000. ESL’s online announcement instead set USD 500,000 for the four regional competitions and redistributed the remainder across later tournaments. Liquipedia lists Intel, MTN DEW GAME FUEL and DHL as sponsors; ESL’s announcement confirms the Intel title branding, while DHL separately confirmed its 2020 ESL One series sponsorship.[1][3][4]
