Team Liquid was reported by The Esports Radar to have notified staff on August 26 about a new global workforce restructuring affecting multiple departments. Sheep Esports said sources affected by the cuts confirmed the situation, while Team Liquid declined to comment.
The reported action would be the organization’s third major internal contraction within a year, following rounds reported in September 2025 and March 2026. The final number of affected employees is unknown, and some contracts were expected to expire at the end of September.
Why It Matters
The significance is the tension between profitability and organizational scale. In a separate May 2026 report, Steve Arhancet, Team Liquid’s co-CEO, was reported to have said that the organization generated more than $60 million in revenue in the prior fiscal year and had been profitable for three consecutive years.
Those remarks do not establish current margin, cash flow or forward revenue expectations. They do show why a profitable year and a smaller operating footprint should not be treated as contradictory: a club can protect profitability by reducing costs even while its global headcount contracts.
What Changed
The Esports Radar’s sources attributed the latest restructuring to revised financial forecasts, lower revenue targets, macroeconomic pressure and shifting commercial investment across gaming. These explanations remain attributed to anonymous sources rather than to a Team Liquid statement.
The reports also pointed to the end of Team Liquid’s Honda partnership in May 2025 and the organization’s lower Esports World Cup Club Championship payout in 2026 as commercial pressure points. Team Liquid finished fifth in 2026 and received $2 million, compared with $4 million in 2025.
The contraction does not appear to be a full retreat from every market. Team Liquid’s careers page listed roles in Jakarta and Metro Manila, including finance, marketing, sales and partnerships, product and digital work. It also listed a role under Liquid Media, while Team Liquid’s public materials continue to identify STUN.GG with its Indonesian and Philippine mobile-esports operations and Liquipedia as a major wiki platform.
What to Watch
- The final headcount impact and the September contract expiries, if the organization or affected staff disclose them.
- Any revised revenue targets, partnership changes or further reductions that would indicate a longer operating reset.
- Changes to the Jakarta and Metro Manila roles on Team Liquid’s careers page, which can show whether regional investment continues or narrows.
