The Major Sports Events Committee (MSEC) is one of three committees under the Sports Commission. It advises the government on major sports event hosting policy, resource allocation and funding priorities in Hong Kong, China. Its remit also covers partnerships with the sports, tourism and private sectors and procedures for allocating and controlling public funding.[1][2]

The committee launched the M Mark System in November 2004. The framework recognizes major sports events and provides tailored support intended to help them develop into sustainable, recurring events. The committee’s secretariat is based at the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau in Tamar.[1][3]

Under guidelines effective September 16, 2025, support can include organizational and sponsorship advice, coordination with government departments, publicity, and funding through matching funds or direct grants. Applications are assessed against eligibility and vetting criteria, with monitoring of public expenditure. The M Mark designation alone does not establish an individual event’s funding award.[3]

Its official 2026 M Mark calendar includes BLAST Premier Hong Kong Rivals, naming BLAST and the Esports Association of Hong Kong, China as co-organizers.[4]
