GameSquare positions itself as a media, entertainment and technology platform serving brands, game publishers and creators. Its investor materials describe marketing and creative services, data and analytics, gaming media and an esports property, making it a commercial operator around gaming audiences rather than a game publisher.[1]
Complexity Gaming’s history shows that GameSquare has also held an ownership and financing role in esports clubs. GameSquare said it acquired Complexity in June 2021, then sold the operating entity to an investor group led by founder Jason Lake in 2024; the sale included a seller-financed note.[5][3]
In September 2026, Lake said the Complexity intellectual property had returned to GameSquare after the note remained unpaid. That statement establishes the reported IP transfer, but does not disclose the legal terms or any relaunch plan. GameSquare has not announced a current Complexity operating team or brand partnership inventory in the sources reviewed.[4]
