The CMG National Esports Development Research Institute (中央广播电视总台国家电子竞技发展研究院) is a research institution established in March 2023 by China Media Group (CMG), the state broadcaster known internationally as CCTV. It was the first national-level institute dedicated to esports research in China, focused on industry standards, research and the healthy development of the competitive gaming sector.

Esports World Cup memorandum

In 2025, the institute signed a cooperation memorandum with the Esports World Cup Foundation, deepening the relationship between the tournament and Chinese state media institutions. The agreement was cited by foundation CEO Ralf Reichert as an example of how the Esports World Cup is expanding its cooperation in China beyond commercial partners such as Tencent Esports.
