Major League Gaming Corp. (MLG) was a professional esports organization based in New York City. Founded in 2002 by Sundance DiGiovanni and Mike Sepso, MLG held official video game tournaments throughout the United States and Canada, becoming one of the earliest and most influential competitive gaming leagues in North America.
MLG was the first televised console gaming league in the United States, with its Halo 2 Pro Series broadcast by USA Network on the Boost Mobile MLG Pro Circuit. The organization later expanded to support games including StarCraft II, League of Legends, Call of Duty, Dota 2, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and fighting games. MLG also operated GameBattles, an online competitive gaming platform.
In January 2016, Activision Blizzard acquired MLG for $46 million, primarily targeting its streaming platform MLG.tv as part of plans to build an esports-focused television network. The organization ultimately shut down in January 2024, with GameBattles discontinued as its last active branch.
