The IOC Esports Commission was established on September 5, 2023 by then-IOC President Thomas Bach. Led by IOC member David Lappartient, the commission was tasked with exploring the potential of virtual sports and esports within the Olympic framework. The commission was dissolved in 2025 as part of the IOC’s restructuring under the “Fit for the Future” plan, with esports responsibilities transferred to the President’s executive office.
